Jesus endured the cross for the joy that was set before him. Like him, I, too, not only should but also, through the power of the Holy Spirit, can endure the sadness that comes from my every unmet desire. Endure, meaning remain faithful to the God who is faithful to me.
In other words, I could feel immense heartbreak and still get up to clean my apartment instead of lying in bed all day. I could have the most unproductive day ever and still go home praising God instead of wallowing in self-pity. I could even see 자상이 with someone else on a random Tuesday and still turn to Christ instead of vodka and Cardi B to cope. I can do all these things through Christ who strengthens me. I can do all these things precisely because Jesus endured the cross even when it was really hard. Thank you, Jesus, for conquering the power of sin over my flesh. Thank you, Jesus, for making a way out for me. Your will to sanctify me is stronger than even my fiercest desire for sin. "How I've proved him over and over!"
